The phrase “autoblogging” has a lot of traction these days so it might be wise to take a few minutes and make sure we understand just what it is…. and what it is not.
Like anything else online, greedy individuals looking to “game” the elaborate algorithms and systems set in place by Google and other web search engines went overboard in the beginning days of autoblogs by essentially copying and reposting entire web posts, articles and news stories. It got so bad that this practice was eventually flagged fot what it was: AutoSpam.
Those sites which stole, plagiarized and reposted so much duplicate content that they were little more than online blog rustlers, were eventually banned and relegated to the garbage heap of the net.
So the origins of autoblogging were not so good.
Things have now, fortunately, changed, thanks to new technology, a huge resurgence in ethical blogging and the never ceasing demand by Internet consumers for niche, or speciality, content.
One thing autoblogs do is automatically create content for a blog, instead of manually writing a post. Largely based on keywords and specific content, autoblogs find content, nets stories, RSS feeds, webposts and often video and audio that match that description, deliver it to your weblog and post it for you on a certain schedule.
Much of the material if aggregated, gathered from existing sites, and then excerpted on your blog, with a complete link to the original source. For fans, or those interested in the niche, your autoblog serves a valuable function in going out and gathering relevant information from a number of different sources.
There is a wide variety of commercial autoblogging products and training coerces available, as well as free plugins for popular blog content management and publishing systems such as WordPress.
Beware of any service or program that claims you will make a fortune autoblogging. While you can indeed make a good income, those who claim it happens with little or no work are liars. Autoblogging takes a lot of work. While the content be be aggregated and posted for you, maintaining the site, culling duplicate and inappropriate content and keeping your site functioning smoothly is a daily task.
As we write and discuss building a blog network and autoblogging, we are talking about using totally above board tactic. No spam, no stolen copy, “respun” to make it seem like we did it ourself. We’re talking about building reputable, useful blogs that contain regularly updated content on specific subjects.
The autoblogs and blog networks we advocate are all white hat and the kind we gladly put our names behind. As you build your blog network, we hope you do the same.
